Rigdom og kærlighed  - Midi

Han gav afkald på alting for hendes skyld;
Men hans kærlighed var for stærk for dødsriget;
han stod op,
han besejrede dødens magt!

4. Ingen vande kan slukke hans kærlighed,
ingen floder kan skylle den bort.
Vil du knuse hans hjerte i din ringeagt?
Kære Jesus, bevar mig dog fra det!
Jeg vil gengælde dig al din kærlighed,
Herre, hjælp mig at brænde kun for dig!
For min eneste rigdom er din kærlighed,
lad den gro,
lad den bære sin frugt i mig!

Wealth and Love

If a man gave away his riches for love,
who would look down on him?
To give what one owns for one's beloved
is more than to own the whole world.
I will sing a song about a prince
more wealthy than Solomon himself.
He had fallen for the most lovely one in the world,
she was beautiful,
and she filled his life with songs.

And he gave away all of his riches for love,
no treasure was so dear to him as she.
He spoiled her with a shower of gifts,
he let her have evrything that he owned.
Like a beggar went the prince to his darling
fell to his knees
to try to win her favour.

Although he gave away all of his riches for love,
many people looked down on him,
and the imprisoned him to kill him,
and he died in their scorn and riddling.
He resigned everything for her,
and now he even gave his life.
But his love was to great for hell;
he stood up,
he defeated the power of death!

Many waters cannot quench love,
neither can the floods drown it:
Will you crush his heart with contempt?
Dear Jesus, preserve me from that!
I will repay your love,
O Lord, help me to burn only for you!
Because my only riches is your love,
let it grow,
let it bear fruit in me!
