Adams morgensang  - Midi

urterne dufter kraftigt;

Lystigt i oprørte vandstrømme ørreder springer,

lige til jeg blev sat til at gi’ dyrene navne;
da gik det op for mig, hvad det vil sige at savne!
Fåret dog har sin vædder,
bukkene deres geder,
koen jo har sin tyr;
uanset hvor jeg ledte,
endte jeg dog med dette:
aldrig jeg fandt min lige blandt åndløse dyr.

5. Øverst på liljeklædt bakke i løvhyttens skygge
ligger hun endnu og blunder i sødeste lykke.

Adam's morning song

The eastern sky is filled with light from glowing flames,
the snow of the mountains get rose colours where the fire reflects.
The waterfall refreshes me with cool cascades,
the breeze will dry my body when I leave the bath.
The grass is green and lush,
the herbs smell strongly;
everything has my creator made.
Up goes the solar disc,
wakes our earth to live.
Lord, my God, how is your creation great!

The sleepy owl flies home to his sleep tree,
the groves are filled with hymns from joyful birds.
Trouts jump merrily in troubled water streams,
shining dragon flies swarm on gauzy wings.
Small birds, squirrels, ducks
eat from my hands,
gorging on fruit and vegetables.
Between those things you have given,
most remarkable is really the life,
Lord, my God, how life is lovely and wonderful!

Soon I understood to love every god-given gift.
Everything was lovely and well in the delightful garden,
until I was assigned to give names to the animals;
then i realized what it is to miss!
The ewe has her ram,
the billy goats their she-goats,
the cow has her bull;
no matter where I was looking,
i ended up with this:
never I would find my equal among spirit-less animals.

The Lord has heard my sighs and set on my side
thousand times more fantastic, than I could know:
She is a human like me, and she speaks and thinks,
she is a part of my heart - which I give to her.
Everything I will give to my dear,
i only wish she must be
unlimited happy.
Forever we will be together,
nothing can blow out the flame.
Loneliness on earth is now gone forever!

On top of the lily-covered hill, in the shadow of the bower,
is she still dozing in the sweetest happiness.
The meadow lark wakes up my bride with his silvery voice,
wonderfully curious she peeps from her hiding place!
I hurry forward
- look, how the beauty is smiling,
smiling to me, for sure!
Everybody must realize
how much I love her -
Lord, my God, you saved the best creation till the last!
